4 December, 20242 min read

FSSAI was started in India on 5 September 2008 and since then it is responsible for safe food. Recently, FSSAI has introduced significant reforms to enhance consumer safety and ensure food integrity in the rapidly growing food delivery and e-commerce sectors.

Food Safety

One of the major updates mandates compulsory training for delivery personnel, aiming to sensitize them to food safety norms and ensure they handle food products responsibly during transit. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce risks of contamination or mishandling during delivery.

Additionally, FSSAI has imposed strict regulations on food tech platforms, preventing them from listing any seller who does not display their valid FSSAI registration number. This move ensures that only verified food vendors operate on such platforms, bolstering consumer trust and product quality.

Five New Rules

The big decision that FSSAI has taken recently is for those who do online delivery work. These measures are designed to guarantee consumer protection and uphold product integrity at all stages of the supply chain. While the specific measures were not disclosed, they are expected to address key areas such as packaging, storage, and timely delivery.

These reforms underscore FSSAI's commitment to safeguarding public health in an era where online food services are increasingly prevalent. The focus on training, vendor verification, and stringent compliance is a step forward in ensuring that consumers receive safe and high-quality food products, fostering greater accountability in the industry.
